sweden, i love you.

August 7, 2009

I have been listening to alot of Swedish dance music this past week or so, and almost every band I’ve heard I have loved. My friend Chris told me about this band Zeigeist, and that they sound like The Knife, and I had to check them out. The first track I heard was Humanitarianism, and I thought it was alright. While checking out their youtube videos I saw that they had covered Kylie Minogue‘s Giving You Up. Being a huge Kylie fan myself, I listened to it, and here it is:

Zeigeist- Giving You Up

Isn’t it great!? Better than the original, in my opinion.

Another band I’ve come across is Miike Snow. They too, are Swedish. Their single is Animal, but when I downloaded the album, I found Sylvia to be their best track. Here it is:

Miike Snow- Sylvia

This other band I came across was The Sound of Arrows. Popjustice had SOA’s Into The Clouds track as their “Song of the Day” and I searched for them and came across this track. It kind of sounds like a dance-y pop version of a Disney song, and I love it.

Sound of Arrows- M.A.G.I.C.

That’s about it, I think. If I come across anymore great Swedish bands, I shall blog again. Until then, I’ll leave you with a performance by Zeigeist of Wrecked Metal, my favourite one by them.

oh, what fun.

Don’t you just love new music? I know I do. Here are some good finds I’ve found since I’ve last blogged.

Mini VivaLeft My Heart In Tokyo

I am obsessed with this song and this video (especially Britt with the VV Brown hair). Britt and Frankee are their names, another project from Xenomania, the production team that are behind the success of the great Girls Aloud. This video reminds me of the Spice Girls’ video, 2 Become 1. Most likely due to the fast-paced filming of the urban scenery. Britt also reminds me of Lovefoxxx from CSS. Just sayin’.

MadonnaCelebration

“Haven’t I seen you somewhere before? You look familiar. You wanna dance? Yeah? I guess I just don’t recognize you with your clothes on.”

Incredible, no? I have to say, I was not a big fan of ‘Hard Candy’, mostly because of my dislike 4 Minutes, but this is genius. ‘Confessions’ is easily her best album since, well, forever and I think this could have been a B-Side to that album.

Dan BlackAlone

This album is amazing. I would recommend it to anyone. Dan Black is definitely one to watch out for. Too bad talent like this isn’t exposed enough here in the states. His videos are really creative and this stop-motion video for Alone is defintely my favourite.

Alright, so these are just some of the music I’ve come across in the past few weeks. Check out my last.fm profile (link is on the right of the page) to see what I’ve been listening to lately.

This is some of my own photography. I think these are my best images. (Some have been blogged before, but these are newly edited). I think putting my name on them makes them look snazzy.

Girls Aloud

June 1, 2009

I have a problem, and I am not afraid to admit it. I have an addiction. To this:

girls-aloud12

Clockwise from left: Nicola; Cheryl; Kimberley; Nadine; Sarah.

These are the women of Girls Aloud. In my opinion, they are the hottest girl group I have ever seen. If you know me well, then you sure as hell know that I love a girl with short hair, hence Sarah being my favorite (and the sexiest) of the quintet. I would recommend Girls Aloud to anyone and everyone. Thanks to my last.fm “Recommended Artists” section on my profile, I took a quick look at their bio and thought “Eh… another reality show pop group? No thanks.” But after saying that I thought to myself that I should atleast give them a chance, I looked them up on myspace (a mighty fancy one, I must say). Their current single “Untouchable” played and I fell in a trance of awesomeness. I mean, I listen to a lot of different genres of music, electropop being my favorite, and I never jumped quickly onto a bandwagon faster than the Girls Aloud one. I probably will be listening to them for the next few months, probably wearing them out, but it’s totally worth it. Their songs are so catchy!

Unforuntately, all of their videos on YouTube are disabled. So, it makes me sad that I can’t leave you all with a video. However, I will leave a link of my favorite song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UHoF3a6Q9Wk&feature=channel.

Also, they never tour the U.S nor are they even played on the radio. Which I think is a good thing so I can keep them for myself.

Remember This?

June 1, 2009

The 90’s. Remember that? Like most people, whenever I think of the 90’s I think of flannel shirts, Nirvana, and clothes that don’t match (kind of like a stereotypical lesbian, just kidding). Flipping through my channels a few days ago it occured to me that the Disney channel now rules kids’ television. Not to sound like a whiny grandfather, but in my day, Nickelodeon was the talk of the playgrounds. Fast forward to today,  this cheesy Hannah Montana and Jonas Brothers frenzy is simply rubbish. And also it seems today that Nickelodeon has sunk to a new low by imitating this nonsense with shows like iCarly and Naked Brothers Band (seriously, Nickelodeon? Seems perfect for a pedophile). But I understand that times change, and I know I have, so unfortunately these ridiculous shows are here to stay. Now, on to a retrospect of the shows that made up my childhood, and maybe yours as well.

Rugrats

Who didn’t watch the Rugrats? I know I did. One of my favorite childhood shows. I always felt sorry for Chuckie though. He was always clumsy and well, he was the nerd of the bunch. I’m pretty sure everybody remembers Angelica, the bitch of the gang, always carrying around her little Cynthia doll (which now reminds me of a blond Amy Winehouse). I remember her reminding me of my big sister and how she was exactly like her. Tommy, the leader and the brave one was my favorite. I remember his passive mother always putting him back into that damn fence after the countless times he would escape from his toy screwdriver. Come on woman, grow some brains. As for Phil and Lil, well they were definitely odd. They were actually just gross. Always eating worms and such, and I always though that their mother was a butch lesbian (I also thought that Chuckie’s father was gay). Oh, the memories.

Doug

It’s Doug everybody! And of course his loyal dog Porkchop. I remember me and my big sister would simultaneously bark with Porkchop at the end of the introduction. But she would always insist that I do it, but would end up doing it before me just to push my buttons. Oh wasn’t my childhood swell? Anyways, he had a friend named Skeeter (they would not be able to get away with a name like that today thanks to Lil’ Jon), a bully named Roger, and we can’t forget his love-interest Patty Mayonnaise. This brings back memories!

Nickelodeon’s GUTS

I always wanted to be on GUTS. Although in my later childhood I was a little larger than most, around this time I was a little puny young lad. I remember wondering how you could try out for such a great event as this, but never actually going through to do so. It was basically like the Olympics, but for kids. There were even kids from different countries. It sounded so cool. I was probably too young of age to compete in this game show, but it still was fun to watch.

What made me think of blogging on such a topic was the discovery of a website that have these retro television shows’ theme song lyrics, clips, and even intros. I strongly recommend that you visit this site [retrojunk.com], even if you are not a child of the 90’s because I can assure you that it’s worth it. Me and my friend were recently browsing and reminiscing of what used to be good television.

Anybody have a time machine I could borrow?
